Biography
A quote from Banksy “Art should comfort the disturbed and disturb the comfortable” sums up much of Gaye Paterson’s work. She very much lives in the now, travels where she pleases and works with what’s in front of her.
Her artworks stem from the real lives and stories of people be it asylum seekers reaching Lesvos, social controversy or the environment.
Paterson graduated in Graphic Design which has remained a strong element in her work. She has been a tutor at the Australian National University Institute of the Arts; printmaking instructor and collaborated on artist book projects at Atelier GE Grave, Ministry of Culture, and a summer workshop tutor for Skopelos Works on Paper in Skopelos, Greece.
Over the years her Artist in Residence includes several residencies at Frans Masereel Centrum, Belgium and Guanlan Original Printmaking Studio, China. Returning from Europe, Paterson set up her own printmaking studio where she has worked for the past 14 years.
